Comment Please!
Hey I just want to get a pulse on what Bulldog fans think about the future of Fresno State football. I am interested in what people have to say so please leave a comment!!
What should expectations be for our program on a yearly basis?
What type of personality would you like to see our team take on?
Do we need a new coach?
Do we need an overhaul of our offensive and defensive schemes?
Did we peak in 2001 when we hit #8 in the nation?
How do we spark more fan interest?
What needs to be done to build our program into a perennial power?
These are just a few of the questions you could comment on or add your own flavor!!
We have two big problems in my opinion.
ReplyDelete1) We can not stop a spread offense to save ourselves. Actually any good offense kills us. If we could improve that then we would have a chance. PH knows this and that is why he took all defense last recruiting class. Hopefully next year they can add more to the team.
2) What idiot schedules our games?
Boise in the beginning of the year with a roockie QB?
Our non conferance schedule is too tough. We should play 2 ligit teams, and 2 cupcakes.
Example:
uc somebody
bowling green
Kansas
Rutgers
and then our wac schedule.
Three top-tier schools is just to many.
In addition can we not play Boise on 6 days rest from a double OT game on the road in Wisconsin? Maybe give the players a bye the week before a big game or after a long road trip to a team you have historically played close?
Yeah, i would pretty much agree with that. Our D has had a very tough time stopping any decent offense (case in point, yesterday vs Illinois). I heard one of the announcers during the ESPN broadcast of the Boise State/Nevada game say that what separates Boise State from the rest of the WAC is that they have a legit defense that can get stops which is absolutely true. We really have no pass rush from our front 4 and generate very few hurries or sacks. We will have to step up defensively if we want to take our program to the next level.
ReplyDeleteIt's on the defensive side of the ball and it's a player talent issue...aka recruiting. So if your a state school hindered by a tight budget, then start making stops at the JC's while you're on your way to see a 17yr old. There is too much talent landing at top 50 programs from Cali JC's and we're not even making an attempt in this pool of players. It's not coaching, schemes, or scheduling...IT'S RECRUITING STUPID!
ReplyDeleteWhat should expectations be for our program on a yearly basis?
ReplyDelete--Winning the WAC, being a top 25 program, knocking off one or more AQ schools.
What type of personality would you like to see our team take on?
--The Bulldog Football mentality. More focus on defense. Hitting. Swarming. Gang tackling. Relentless effort for 60 minutes.
Do we need a new coach?
--Not a new head coach. But we need our beloved Pat Hill to stop worrying so much about his own pride and stubborness and be willing to adapt and try new things.
Do we need an overhaul of our offensive and defensive schemes?
--Definitely not offensive scheme, but a few wrinkles never hurt. SOMETHING must be done on defense. It's been in shambles four straight years now. No playmakers, no turnover machines, not enough speed/size combo. Need to start the best players (which we're not doing right now).
Did we peak in 2001 when we hit #8 in the nation?
--No. That was a taste of what's possible.
How do we spark more fan interest?
--Unfortunately, with Fresno State's fan base, you have to win. I'll be there every time. As will you and many reading this blog. But Fresno has lots of fairweather fans.
What needs to be done to build our program into a perennial power?
--Expansion into the MWC wouldn't hurt. Winning a few consecutive WAC titles (let's start with one) and then we've gotta break through with a BCS bowl season soon.
Our expectations should be we are are a BCS QUALITY Team stuck in the WAC! Our personality is "SHUT UP AND HIT SOMEBODY! Our Coach is mostly fine. We are lucky to have him. He does well with the talent he has, they always play hard. Maybe sometimes be more less predictable on play calling, but with Ryan Matthew its understandable, maybe next year Derek Carr. California and Fresno likes winner's, so does the media. Promotions through out the state, not just central California to promote growth and interest in program.
